Born in Wiesbaden, the soprano singer started studying German philology, anglistics and musicology at the University of Mainz. The turning point in her career was the start of her vocal studies at the Academy for Music and Performing Arts “Mozarteum” in Salzburg, which she passed with distinction in 1996. She gave concerts already during her studies and successfully took part in international competitions. For example, she was an awardee at the famous AS.LI.CO. singing competiton which are held at the Scala in Milano.

Being a mezzo-soprano, she had her first engagements and guest performances in Salzburg, Erfurt, Klagenfurt, Zagreb as well as at the Festival Klangbogen in Vienna. During that period she was able to play all different kind of roles.

In 1997, she was an ensemble member at the State Opera of Vienna. From then on she gave guest performances as a lyrical-dramatic soprano on renowned opera stages such as Gran Teatru del Liceu Barcelona, Bregenz, Leipzig, Karlsruhe, at the National Theater Weimar etc.

The concert tour accompanying world famous bass-baritone Bryn Teufel in 2007 as well as her performance at the Festival MúsicaMallorca, where she performed Verdis "Messa da Requiem" at the Teatre Principal de Palma, were important artistic challenges.

In 2008, she performed at gala concerts with star tenor Roberto Alagna. In the summer of 2009, Barbara Krieger was able to, once again, enthuse listeners performing at the Classic Open Air in Berlin, together with world star José Carreras. In 2009/10, she became more and more sought-after and busy as her schedule included working on a new cd featuring arias by Verismo as well as concerts and recitals, starring artists such as José Cura.

From 2007 until 2011, Barbara Krieger initiated the concert series CLASSIC OPEN AIR near the Frauenkirche in Dresden, which attracted thousands of music-lovers gathering at the Neumarkt plaza and, at the same time, raising awareness for different charitable organizations. Altogether the concerts raised 184.124 € for charity!

The soprano sang at the opera galas of the CLASSIC OPEN AIR in Berlin and Dresden, at the festival concert celebrating the 20th anniversary of the State Orchestra of St. Petersburg in the Glinka-Chapel as well as starring in Verdi`s “Requiem” during All Souls Sunday at the Berlin Dome.

Many of her recordings are widely noticed, such as „Richard Strauss, Vier letzte Lieder /Orchesterlieder“ and „Viva L'Opera“ featuring arias and duets by Boito, Catalani, Charpentier, Puccini and Verdi. Both were recorded with the Symphonic orchestra of Berlin.
